In a city filled with “coffeeshops” (which don’t specialize in coffee), great eats, and bicycles that will nearly run you over, you are in for the best B.L.T. club sandwich in the world (and yes, I mean the world!).
The place? Eatcafé Roem. It’s a small cafe located in the heart of Amsterdam. Resting on a charming canal with commanding views of the city, it sits a stones-throw away from the Anne Frank Museum. An extra bonus that isn’t in most guidebooks, is its proximity to two cheap/free museums: The Amsterdam Tulip Museum (cheeky and fun) and the Amsterdam Cheese Museum (a delicious adventure).
Before or after any one of these museums, stop into Eatcafé Roem and try what is considered Amsterdam’s best sandwich. Simply order the Club Sandwich B.L.T. and a Heineken, made just down the road from the restaurant. But using the title Club B.L.T. does this sandwich no justice. “The Dutch God of Sandwiches” would even be an understatement. The key ingredient that makes this sandwich so delicious? Avocado. The little green fruit is nestled between ample crispy bacon, freshly sliced chicken, fresh tomatoes, lettuce, all between two toasted pieces of Dutch bread. The sandwich is stacked so high that it can hardly fit into a wide-open mouth. A hearty meal for even the hungriest of tourists.
