Are you looking for some tips for men for travel clothing on a budget? Look no further. We’ve traveled the world and have decided that good travel clothing really takes five things into consideration. Some of these tips are durability, temperature appropriateness, weight, multi-purpose, and quick drying.
1. Durability
First, the ideal clothing is durable. It can take a beating, be washed in a sink, not rip from thorny bushes, and look okay even after being wrinkled up in a bag. There have been countless times that I’ve had to wash entire outfits in a hostel sink or in the ocean. Even the most expensive clothing cannot handle that kind of wear.
2. Temperature Appropriate
A second tip, even if you are looking for travel clothing for men on a budget, you MUST take into consideration the climate of your destination. You can have the best pair of shorts on the market, but if you’re in Norway in the winter, they are pretty much useless.
A good pair of clothing should be temperature appropriate. While this may seem like a no-brainer, I can’t tell you how many times we’ve met someone while traveling who had to buy a whole new wardrobe. That’s extra cost. Extra weight. Extra hassle. Save yourself all of that and do your research. Plan accordingly. And MOST IMPORTANTLY bring clothes plus or minus 20 degrees so that you are prepared.
3. Weight
A third tip for travel clothing for men on a budget is that their clothing should be lightweight. Sadly this means little or no jeans. Jeans were designed to be rugged for the miners in California during the Gold Rush, but that ruggedness comes at the severe cost of weight. When you are backpacking weight is a commodity.
4. Multi-Purpose
Fourth, your clothing should also being able to be used for multiple occasions, from hiking through the woods to sitting in a modest dining establishment. A good example of this is a nice pair of convertible pants.

5. Quick Drying
Fifth, your clothing should be able to be dried quickly. I cannot stress this point enough. You will very likely be drying your clothes on the fly. We’ve found ourselves washing clothes in hostel sinks and drying them over our beds or, if we are in a hotel, drying them with a hair dryer. Clothes that dry fast are very practical and a must because a laundry mat is not always an economical or realistic option.
A good example of a quick-drying product is Mountain Hardware’s wicking shirts.

Summary
These are just some of the main tips for men looking for travel clothing on a budget. Not all articles of clothing are going to meet all five of these categories. We recommend that you try and get at least 3 or 4 of them, though. If you do that, then you will likely be very happy with your choice.
